FALSE: Assumption that others know better
I went through most of my adult life in 'learning mode' where I started with the assumption that others always know better. When thinking this through, and looking back with the 'tism lens, this was a trauma response to early interactions where I was constantly told I was 'wrong'. A side effect of this is when you've been through it enough times you make double or more sure that your facts are exactly that, facts.
Now reaching later life... I still catch myself in new situations in observer / learner mode when instead of putting forwards my own facts, methods, efficiencies, I'm there gawking at the 'adults' in the room... then I give myself a good mental kicking and get on with it - yes this is exhausting...
I've had arguments with people about facts and science. The thing about facts and science is they can't be argued with, they're absolute, if it can't be expressed in numbers, it's an opinion, not a fact. I've been perceived as strait laced, rude etc... as I won't back down over facts, pseudo-science derp cannot be allowed to stand. It impacted my marriage where my wife would be all bright and happy about some snippet she'd read on 5 minute crafts or one of those other clickbait gaslighting platforms, and then I'd bust it. I had to do it, but regretted the way it made her feel, and felt like a shit afterwards.
In summary, others (read: neurotypicals) can exist in a space where they'll happily operate in ignorance of the actual absolute facts, they won't go out of their way to verify most of the time, and they'll gaslight you into thinking you're wrong, especially when you're backed by science and facts - this is where some autistic trauma springs from - awareness is power.
